Comment 0Go online and search. There are lots of surgical options and you have to choose the right one for you. It is hard to give you advice because I don’t know stuff like..have you had a lumpectomy, mastectomy, are you large or small breasted, how close is the cancer to the chest wall, how close to the areola, do you have enough body fat to consider using your own tissue, etc

PatientPlease talk to your doctor about this - let him/her explain what is going on and what your options are.

Color flow imaging is where the color doppler (sound wave) is applied during the ultrasound portion, with increased vascularity of the area in question. The mammogram was given a birads 0,indeterminate, Incomplete needs additional imaging, more than likely because your mammogram needed additional imaging (Ultrasound), therefore was read as a separate exam. The ultrasound portion was given the birads 4/5 as a final result code. Your PCP (Doctor) should send you to a surgeon, please be sure and go see one soon.
The birads codes are as follows:
Birads 0- Incomplete needs additional imaging
Birads 1-Negative
Birads 2-Benign
Birads 3-Probably benign(usually 6 mos follow up)
Birads 4-Suspicious ( A,or B,or C )
Birads 5-Highly suggestive of malignancy
Birads 6-Biopsy proven malignancy
I have had several biopsies and breast cancer twice. I am very familiar with the mammography birads assessment not an expert but I do understand it fully.

Learning About Breast CancerHave you gotten the written biopsy results? I'm not a doctor but you could have both. By the way I had 4 areas of cancer 3 of which were different types in my one breast.
Comment 1Yes, you can have both. If you did get biopsy and the result says cancer , then you need to have your doctor explain the type of cancer and the next step of evaluation/intervention. Some cancer is very early and local but still need to act on.

Everyone's body handles surgery differently. I never had any pain with mine 5+ years ago. As to your hair some suggest cutting it off a little at a time. My friend went from waist length hair to her shoulders first, then her chin, before shaving the rest off and that comforted her. Mine was short to start with and when I asked my gal to shave the rest off after losing some with my first infusion she felt I wouldn't lose anymore than I already had but it was a nuisance so she took the rest off and one more time a month later then we let it grow back, took about 9 months for me to have enough hair back to get a decent hair cut and it was longer than what it was when I started and really curly. Everyone is different, just take a deep breath and try to relax and that will help your body and mind heal.
I also cut my hair to my shoulders because I had long hair. When it started coming out in little clumps, my hairdresser shaved it. That was a tough day for me. My mastectomy wasn’t as bad as I thought. I didn’t get reconstruction. I was sad and scared to look at my chest. It’s a hard transition,...

The whole cancer process is hard , but just take one day at a time. Good luck .

Learning About Breast CancerEveryone's cancer has different characteristics and thus the treatment plan is individualized for that patient. I would guess perhaps some chemotherapy, radiation, a combo of those or something totally different. Her team will come up with a plan just for her and no I am not a doctor.
Comment 1Thanks

Learning About Breast CancerThey hadn't been approved by the FDA in the US when I was doing chemo. 5 years ago. I've seen stories both pro and con with using them.
Comment 1My girlfriend tried it and it was a waste of money. After a while during her treatment she couldn’t be bothered wearing it.

Learning About Breast CancerEveryone's body handles seromas differently. I know you wrote this 3 weeks ago but I wasn't able to answer your question. I had a friend who after taking out her drainage tubes one side kept getting seromas which made her miserable so the surgeon went in and put the tubes back in for a time.

If they can give me a good reason to continue another 5 years I will if not I just may go off of it. My PCP has already told me if I'm taken off it he will discontinue the med. I take for Osteopenia, he's already cut the dosage in half since my bone mass has improved.
Are you having any bad side effects from it?

*Update* I was part of a research study at the Mayo Clinic. While proton radiation is not typically used for breast cancer they are trying to make it standard care as it decreases exposure of the heart and lungs. I went through the whole treatment with just some minor pinkness to the skin. The following two weeks however, my skin became redder and redder, sore, and dried out. While this was very uncomfortable it was for a short amount of time and now I am pretty much completely healed and back to normal. I hope this might help someone else in the future.

Learning About Breast CancerChemo. effects everyone differently. My place arranged a ride to and from my first treatment to see how my body would handle it as I live alone. Not sure if you have started AC yet. It’s a tough chemo, not gonna lie. I usually felt good day of and day after, then would hit me hard next few days. It’s accumulative so gets worse each treatment. I could barely walk for a few days each treatment. White blood cells down to almost zero. You...

I saw my Radiation PA a few weeks ago and she mentioned genetic testing and it's been 5 years since my diagnosis. I qualify as I have a cousin who was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer but being my cousin doesn't qualify me. In checking with Medicare because of that they won't pay for it if I choose to do it which I won't for now. She said some recent studies have shown a possible family link with pancreas and breast cancer.
Hi betti I was having difficulties with signing into appt since I changed my phone. Anyway I did the Braca test and it was paid by insurance only because I had a strong history of Breast cancer which I found out after the fact.

Learning About Breast CancerIya Basira is not a "real" cancer patient or family member you need to let the moderator aware of it. They can look into it, I can't see any posts with that name or I could flag anything the person has written.
