I considered aromatase inhibitors a big part of my treatment. I had to stop Femora, and am just wondering what if I can't tolerate any of the inhibitors. Is there anything else I can do ? Anyone else had this experience?

I read and there are some videos that mention if you can't tolerate AIs you can take Tamoxifen even if you are postmenopausal. Maybe you can me ask your doctor about that. Best wishes to you.

Great question!!!!! I haven't started yet... I only take a vitamin and nothing else, so the whole notion of pills to counteract side effects of first pill is mind boggling to me!

Femara blocks Estrogen production if your tumor was Estrogen+.

I really wanted to take it. Now I'm wondering about taking something that is damaging to your body. I sure don't want a Recurrence , but I don't want to destroy my body in other ways either.

I took femara for a little over a year and had to stop. Pain was debilitating. Now I'm on aromasin and had many of the same effects including insomnia , pain, extreme anxiety. Onc put me on temazepam for sleep and Zoloft for anxiety and pain. I feel almost normal again. There are several AI's. keep on plugging.

Thanks, Jo. I am glad that you are tolerating it better, and feeling better. I will try another one, and hope I can find a good solution like you did.

Lou, Did they have you try Arimidex? All the AI's have adverse events. Tamoxifen has it's own host of issues. If they can find another AI for you that would be better.

Thanks Lisa I guess I am dragging. My feet about trying another one, because I hated the side effects. I will ask about that one.

Arimidex is what I started a few weeks ago. Post menopausal.

I couldn't tolerate the AIs. I'm postmenopausal but I doing tamoxifen. I've been tolerating the hot flashes but I finally had to ask for some help. 37.5 mg of effexor solved the problem. I have Ambien for sleep. Yoga, walking and Aleve helps with joint aches.

Marianne, thanks so much. Femara was fine at first, it must be cumulative, because it really knocked me for a loop. Does Tamoxifen effect your ability to think at all ?

The first couple of weeks were tough but my body got used to it I felt ok. The further away from my last chemo I am better mentally. I still keep a lot of notes, 2 calendars, alerts on my phone but I'm ok on the tamoxifen.

It seems my onc. mentioned something other than Femara if it didn't work for me or if I had any issues with it but can't recall the name of it. I would talk with my doctor and see if there are any alternatives. Take care.
